(Lily, this is just exactly it, however you’ve left out the part with the bubbles)
As we were leaving the shore, all salty and sandy, we came across a huge crowd of people blowing an ocean of bubbles on the boardwalk. The air was thick with them, and there were tiny kids screaming and popping them.  Just beside themselves with joy.
We joined right in.
It was just the absolute perfect day, the cherry on top of an amazing start to my summer vacation. I’m so happy. I seriously do wonder to myself (often), how did I get so lucky? My friends are amazing. I can’t imagine a life where I didn’t happen to grown up blocks away from girls who like to like to bullshit confirmation codes, hop on the mega bus for free, and dress up like mermaids for an adventure in NYC. Artistic, intelligent, hilarious, feminist, creative, weird, bad-ass girls. They make the fucking world go round.

This weekend I spontaneously jaunted off to new york city with my friends. we put glitter all over our faces and wore pretty dresses and braided our hair and took the subway out to coney island for the annual Mermaid Parade. On the train, tons of people asked for our picture and we obliged like gracious movie stars. A woman gave us $20 for brightening her day. We emerged from our journey into sunlight and a sea of people dressed in their finest mermaid ensembles. We ate cheap, greasy pizza and drank soda and it was perfect. We ran down to the main street where the parade was and we screamed and shouted as mermaids danced down the street.  We spent our newly acquired $20 on a ride on an old wooden roller coaster, and then we went down to the beach. We waded into the water and in that moment we were real mermaids, glittering and laughing and shrieking at the sailboats on the horizon.

i have biggest smile on my face you guys are so great
